Dota 2 tournaments reduced by half in 2021
In 2021, there will be 83 official Dota 2 tournaments on the competitive scene. It is almost two times less than 2020, when the organizers held 158 tournaments.
The reduction in tournaments is due to the transition to the DPC system. In 2020, organizers filled the tournament schedule with various events, but in 2021, most of them were replaced by leagues that lasted 2 months each.
Despite the significant reduction, the total prize money played has grown 4 times. In 2021, the discipline drew $47,501,926 and $9,452,569 in 2020. It is related to The International 10: the tournament was originally supposed to take place in 2020 but was rescheduled to 2021.
The 2022 competition season will be similar to the 2021 season. The DPC system remains unchanged, but we now have 3 seasons, the first of which, the winter season, is already underway. The total prize pool remains an open question, as it is currently unknown how the prize pool for The International 11 will be formed.
