Elite League Round-Robin Stage Day 4: OG Stun Falcons; Heroic Eliminated
The fourth day of the Elite League second stage was filled with numerous exciting matches and surprising results.
After days of disappointment, Team Spirit has won their first series of the tournament, and live to see another day. Team Falcons overtook G2.iG for first place in Group A after an intense series, while the top two teams in Group B, Aurora and Tundra Esports, shared points. OG pulled off a surprising 2-0 victory against the Team Falcons, and Heroic became the first team to be eliminated from the tournament.
Group A
Team Spirit, who only had one point coming into the fourth day, played against OG. In the first game, Bzm was looking incredibly well on his Invoker, carrying the team to a 14,000 net worth lead. However, Team Spirit found a great teamfight to pull off a comeback.
The following map was the Yatoro show, as he went 26/1/12 on Anti-Mage. It was an action-packed game with 80 kills in 41 minutes.
G2.iG, who was leading Group A, met the Falcons. The first map was a total blowout, as the MENA squad could close the game in only 28 minutes and a 21-5 kill score.
The second game was where all the action was at. Team Falcons already built a 30,000 net worth lead and claimed Mega Creeps, but G2.iG’s Gyrocopter lineup kept defending and managed to pull the gold lead in their favor at one point. The game ended at the 83-minute mark, where Cr1t-’s Tiny with Divine Rapier went all-in on the throne.
Entity Gaming was responsible for dealing the final blow that would eliminate Heroic from the tournament. The Western European team won the series 2-0, putting Heroic at a 3-9 record. K1 and the crew can no longer have enough points for the next stage.
The day ended with a confrontation between two buddies, Bzm and ATF. If OG lost this series, which they were likely to lose, the team would be in big trouble in the Group Stage. Fortunately for Ceb and the gang, they somehow won 2-0 against the best team in the world.
Surprisingly, OG stomped both games without too much trouble. In both games, Bzm played Puck, and had a combined KDA of 24/1/26, showing Malr1ne who the boss is.
Group B
The first match of Group B started with the top two teams, Aurora and Tundra, going head to head. Former teammates 23savage and Whitemon shared a few words in the all chat.
Unfortunately, the series wasn’t too exciting, as both teams took turns stomping each other, ending the series 1-1.
Team Liquid played against Tundra Esports. In the first map, Tundra went for glass-cannon cores: Pure on Sniper and Topson on Zeus. Liquid’s draft was not suited to infiltrate the backline, so the two Tundra players could deal damage for free from far away.
In the following game, Tundra had an 11,000 net worth lead, but miCKe’s Templar Assassin was slowly farming up a storm. When Team Liquid hit their item timings, they found a way back into the game and tied the series. miCKe ended the map 9/0/6.
BOOM Esports are continuing to improve. Before the Elite League, this team could barely keep up with the Tier 2 teams, but here they are, drawing a series against the Gaimin Gladiators.
Ace demolished BOOM in the first game, making quick work on his Axe and ending the game in only 28 minutes. However, the Peruvians turned up for the next game, as a great team effort allowed them to win a map against the Gladiators in 41 minutes, putting them at a decent spot in the Group Stage. Not too good, but not too bad.
The Group Stage standings at the end of Day 4:
Two more days remain for the Elite League Round-robin stage. Eight teams will advance to the Playoffs, while the remaining eight will be eliminated. Heroic is the first team to take the bullet.
