ESL Allegedly “Stole” 1win’s ESL One Birmingham Slot And Gave It To OG
Earlier today, ESL announced that the 1win team failed to secure their visas in time for ESL One Birmingham 2024, which is set to start on April 22.
1win defeated Virtus.pro in the Lower Bracket Final of the Eastern European Qualifier to earn the second slot of the region, back when the roster was still under the Klim Sani4 tag.
By default, the Birmingham slot was supposed to be transferred to Virtus.pro, as they were the team to finish second. However, the Virtus.pro players were also unable to attend the tournament.
Therefore, ESL has decided to invite the second team in line from the Western European Qualifiers, OG. ESL announced that the OG roster has already confirmed their ability to attend the event. This update was posted on ESL’s social media page, so it is deemed official.
However, 1win’s coach posted a statement on his Telegram channel (translated):
“Expect an official announcement and full story from us.
Small spoiler.
Our whole team has now got visas and passports ready to go to England for the tournament :)
ESL took the slot away from us and gave it to the OG team.”
According to the coach, the entire 1win roster is eligible to fly to the United Kingdom. But, ESL still transferred the team’s slot and included OG in the tournament.
The story is still in development, and we will inform you should any updates arise.
