ESL One Birmingham Group Stage Results: Team Spirit and Gaimin Gladiators Sent Out
The three-day first phase of ESL One Birmingham 2024 has ended, and we must bid farewell to four teams already.
In Group A, Talon Esports and Shopify Rebellion took the fall, which was to be expected. However, the two most successful teams of 2023, Team Spirit and the Gaimin Gladiators, were the victims that faced elimination in the opposing group.
Group A Results
Team Falcons and the BetBoom Team had a slow start to their Group Stage campaign, but picked up the pace and both teams secured 6 points.
However, Team Liquid was also included in the equation, so the three teams played a three-way tiebreaker to decide which of the two would qualify for the Upper Bracket.
Team Liquid ended up going 0-2 in the tiebreaker, meaning the BetBoom Team and Team Falcons share the top positions in Group A.
As a result, Team Liquid and G2.iG will begin their Playoffs run through the Lower Bracket.
Talon Esports and Shopify Rebellion were way behind in points, only managing 4 and 3, respectively. The two teams with Southeast Asian blood will be going home early.
Group B Results
OG, a team that wasn’t even supposed to be playing in this event, managed to secure the number one spot in Group B with a respectable 6 points.
Group B was way closer than the other group, as four teams were tied for 2nd to 5th place, all with 5 points. Tundra Esports, Xtreme Gaming, Heroic, and Team Spirit played in a four-way tiebreaker to decide one Upper Bracket spot, two Lower Bracket spots, and one elimination.
Tundra went 3-0 in the tiebreaker, securing the second seed. Xtreme Gaming and Heroic picked up wins to make a Playoffs appearance, while Team Spirit went 0-3 to be eliminated.
The Gaimin Gladiators can be found at the bottom of the table, with only 4 points. Quinn and company were also sent out of the tournament.

Now that the Group Stage is over, the bracket for the main event is set. Now, all matches will be played in Best of 3 format, except for the Grand Final, which is a Best of 5. Teams will play in front of a crowd in Birmingham in a double-elimination bracket.
