G2.IG Go 0-4 In The First Day Of DreamLeague Season 22
On the first day of DreamLeague Season 22, a total of sixteen games were played. There were upsets, comebacks, and awesome matches. Here’s a recap of what happened on Day 1.
Group A
The BetBoom Team is currently leading the group, which shouldn’t be too big of a surprise—however, OG and Virtus.Pro are also tied at first place, while the Gladiators sit at a 1-3 record in 7th place. G2.IG, one of the most hyped-up Chinese rosters, have not won a single map with a score of 0-4.
The BetBoom Team won 2-0 against the Gladiators; simultaneously, Timado’s debut in OG was successful as they could grab a 2-0 victory against G2.IG.
As the day continued, Virtus.Pro managed to take a map off the BetBoom Team, while the Falcons drew both their matches with OG and Azure Ray. Heroic, the only South American team, won 2-0 against G2.IG but lost 0-2 to Virtus.Pro.
Overall, Group A seems balanced after the first day, except for G2.IG, who are potentially facing elimination if things don’t change. Most of the matches in this group were one-sided stomps and did not produce too many entertaining games.
Group B
In Group B, we have two four-way ties for first and last place. Team Spirit and Xtreme Gaming continue to show what they’re made of, but Shopify Rebellion and Team Aurora, who is not fielding a complete roster, share first place with a 3-1 score.
Three Western European teams reside in the bottom half of the group, and interestingly enough, Team Liquid and Tundra Esports can be found there with Team Secret and 1win.
Team Spirit didn’t have the easiest opponents today but went 2-0 against Team Liquid and 1-1 against Tundra. Shopify Rebellion arguably got the easier opponents, 1-1 against Team Aurora and 2-0 against Team Secret.
At the start of the day, 1win pulled off an upset and took a map away from Team Liquid. Team Secret also stomped Xtreme Gaming in a 27-minute game to give the Chinese powerhouse their first loss of the event.
Still, it is early days in Group B, and we should see a significant shift in positions after the second or third day. The Team Spirit matches for today were highly entertaining; Carry Pangolier and Carry Puck in the second game of the series.
The Group Stage will continue until February 28. The bottom four teams from each group are eliminated from the tournament, while the top four move on to the second Group Stage.
