Overview of DPC Western Europe Division One Matches for May 31

The WEU DPC is back with three matches on the last day of May. The day begins with Entity against D1 Hustlers, followed by Gaimin Gladiators versus Tundra, and Team Liquid against Quest to end the day off.

Entity 0-2 D1 Hustlers

Though Entity and D1 Hustlers have a negative record in the group stage, both teams still have a chance to make it to the Major. This series is crucial for both of these teams.

Game 1

Despite Entity being the favorites, D1 Hustlers showed that they were no pushovers, convincingly winning the laning stage with a 3,000 gold lead at minute 11. D1 Hustlers continued to hold their lead and, with such a net worth advantage, could take team fights easily with Shad’s Chronosphere. Though it took some time, Game 1 was a clean showing from the underdogs.

Game 2 - Game To Watch

In Game 2, Stormstormer’s Ember Spirit was lane-countered by adzantick’s Monkey King. Using their superior lanes, D1 Hustlers could again collect a net worth lead coming out of the laning phase. The game was a total stomp, with D1 Hustlers up by 10,000 gold in the 21st minute. However, Entity won a team fight to bring the game back to even.

The game was prolonged, with both teams exchanging kills and pick-offs, until an insane team fight happened around the bottom lane at the 43-minute mark. Eight buybacks were used from both teams, and the fight ended with watson’s Phantom Lancer getting a rampage. Despite watson’s best efforts, D1 Hustlers were able to win the final team fight to 2-0 Entity.

Tundra 2-0 Gaimin Gladiators

The second match of the day is between two of the top seeds in Western Europe. Though Tundra have already qualified for the Major, this match was still vital for them to secure some much-needed DPC points to qualify for The International.

Game 1

In the first game, Gaimin decided to go for a 24th pick Brewmaster for Ace to try and salvage their unique draft. The pick didn’t work out, and skiter’s Bloodseeker had a completely free game. Both skiter and Nine on Timbersaw were top of the net worth and used their advantage to force the Gladiators to tap out 29 minutes in—a dominant showing from the TI winners.

Game 2

Gaimin Gladiators seemed to tidy up their draft for the second game of the series, but somehow, it went even worse. Tundra built up a 4,000 gold lead at 9 minutes, and the game seemed hopeless as the laning stage ended. Game 2 was a total stomp for the side of Tundra, and GG was called even earlier at only 22 minutes—an anticlimactic result for such an anticipated series.

Team Liquid 0-2 Quest

The last series of the day is between Liquid and Quest, and both teams need this win to go to the Bali Major.

Game 1

Team Liquid came out of the laning phase slightly on top, but as the game progressed, Quest began outfarming Liquid with ATF’s Magnus and TA2000’s Terrorblade. A big team fight came up in the Dire top jungle, which Quest was able to win convincingly. From that point onwards, Quest were up 18,000 gold and a lane of barracks, converting the lead into a Game 1 win.

Game 2 - Game To Watch

The early game in Game 2 was kept relatively even, and it was until the 20-minute mark before things started to ramp up, where Quest won a team fight under Liquid’s bottom Tier 2 tower. Quest converted this team fight to maintain a 12,000 net worth lead at 28 minutes.

However, Liquid were able to string back some signs of hope by killing off TA2000’s Juggernaut, creating opportunities to make the game winnable for them. The game-ending team fight occurred at the 40-minute mark, where both teams wanted to contest for Roshan. Quest were able to win the fight and claim the Aegis for themselves, enabling them to walk up Liquid’s high ground and end the game.
