Riyadh Group Stage Day 1: Team Falcons Start Riyadh Masters 0-4 In Groups
Top-tier Dota is finally back, as the Group Stage of the Riyadh Masters 2024 tournament is underway.
We were immediately greeted with several shocking results, namely the best team of the year going 0-4 in their opening matches. Yatoro, who recently changed his name to Raddan, is living up to expectations, taking Team Spirit to a 3-1 record. Surprisingly, Heroic is also on the same boat and performing very well against the best in the world.
Group A Recap
In Day 1, Group A was where all the action resided as each team played two Best of 2 matches.
As mentioned earlier, Heroic and Team Spirit are currently leading the group with an impressive 3-1 record. Team Spirit had to go through Team Falcons and OG, while Heroic faced off against Gaimin Gladiators and LGD Gaming.
The outlier of the group is Team Falcons, who had a slow start to the day. They essentially threw the first map against Team Spirit after fumbling a 10K lead in 17 minutes, and then lost to the Gladiators as well.
The rest of the group features five teams tied with a 2-2 record, which shows that Group A remains highly competitive.
Group B Recap
We didn’t get to see much of Group B, as only one Best of 2 series was played.
The BetBoom Team, Tundra Esports, and Entity Gaming are leading the group with 2-0 records, but it is worth noting that they faced the weakest teams in the group.
The most most evenly matched series of the day was Team Liquid facing off against Xtreme Gaming, which ended up in a draw. We got to see WBG.XG play with their new jerseys and tag after their collaboration with Weibo Gaming.
Other than that, there isn’t too much to say about Group B since we haven’t seen much.
The Riyadh Masters 2024 Group Stage will run from July 10 to 14. The teams are competing for spots in the Playoffs and $5,000,000 in prize pool.
