Xtreme Gaming Lift Their First Trophy At Games of the Future 2024
Ame has finally won his first tournament since returning to the professional scene, while the ex-Azure Ray players have won their second title in recent time. Xtreme Gaming defeated LGD Gaming in the Grand Final with a clean 2-0 sweep.
Position four player XinQ was crowned as the Most Valuable Player of Games of the Future 2024, mostly playing Mirana, Shadow Demon, and Hoodwink.
In the first map of the Grand Final, LGD looked to make a statement after taking decent control of the mid-game, getting good pickoffs and taking calculated fights. However, the game came down to a massive Roshan fight, which Xtreme Gaming closely won. The team fight victory helped Xtreme Gaming take the lead and snowball their advantage into a Game 1 victory.
Xm went for a cheeky last-pick Sniper in the second game, which was unattended. LGD had no answer to the Sniper, couldn’t get on top of him and lacked burst damage. The Xtreme Gaming cores had relatively free games and easily stomped the map in 38 minutes.
With this victory, Xtreme Gaming pocketed $350,000, while LGD Gaming was compensated $160,000 for their efforts.
Before the Grand Final matchup, BOOM Esports played against G2.IG in the 3rd-place decider match.
The first game of the series was incredibly entertaining. The game was back-and-forth, but G2.IG seemed like they had a good grasp of the game. However, after some questionable plays, BOOM Esports clawed their way back. JT’s Meepo was forced to go for an all-in play on BOOM’s throne, but the South American squad could avert the situation and win the first map.
However, winning the first map was all BOOM Esports could do. The Chinese squad could take the second and third games without too many problems, resulting in a third-place finish.
Overall, Games of the Future 2024 wasn’t the most competitive tournament, as most European teams were not in attendance. Still, it was an entertaining week-long tournament, and we hope more events like this should be held in the future to give Tier 2 teams a little push.
