BREAKING: Topson Retires From Competitive Dota
Tundra Esports has announced the departure of Topson from its Dota 2 roster. However, it was also revealed that the Mid player would be retiring from professional play entirely.
Official statement from Tundra Esports:
“Pogson, Godson, Dadson - Topson. After many patches, countless tournaments and some crazy picks, we will have to say farewell to Topson as he retires from competitive Dota. Thank you for everything and all the best.”
Topson is one of the largest names in Dota 2. Throughout his career, he has become one of the most successful players in the scene, and is one of the 10 two-time TI winners in the world. Unfortunately, he missed his chance to become the first three-time winner after finishing the previous TI in third place.
Throughout his career, Topson earned $5,900,000 from tournament prize pools, and is undoubtedly one of the most successful players in the game’s history. He came out of nowhere as a last-minute addition to OG and won TI which was his first LAN tournament.
Topson probably had several reasons to retire. He has a daughter that is growing up, and the competitive Dota schedule can be very draining. Even players like Raddan, Mira, TORONTOTOKYO, and gpk~ took time off due to exhaustion, and they aren’t running a family like Topson is. Additionally, rumors suggest that he had to serve in the military as well.
It is truly a sad day for Dota 2 fans, as one of the most-loved professional players in the scene will be retiring from competitive play. We wish Topson nothing but the best of luck in the future and thank him for the impact he has left on the game.
