PGL Wallachia Day 2 Recap: Team Secret and Shopify Rebellion Pick Up Wins; Upsets Continue
The second day of the PGL Wallachia Season 1 Swiss Stage has ended, meaning some teams will play advancement and elimination on the third day. Here is a rundown of what happened on Day 2.
The day began with two consecutive upsets. MOUZ played against Azure Ray and surprisingly defeated them 2-0. The series was a total stomp, as the Western European squad could win both maps in 30 and 25 minutes. Faith_bian and the crew have been sent to the 0-2 pool.
At the same time, Aurora also defeated the BetBoom Team in a close 2-0 series. The first map was a relatively easy game for lorenof. However, the second game was where all the action resided. It was a back-and-forth 51-minute game. Aurora was able to kite Nightfall and MieRo`’s Chronospheres and Black Holes with well-timed Blink Daggers and Wind Wakers to win the game.
SumaiL and Arteezy won their first series after years of being apart, taking down Virtus.pro 2-1. The kill score of the first map was 33-3 in favor of Shopify Rebellion, but Virtus.pro bounced back in the second game. The decisive map was a total farmfest, but Shopify Rebellion came out on top.
Xtreme Gaming faced off against Team Liquid in the 1-0 pool. Xm went for a shocking 24th pick Shadow Fiend in the first map, a hero we have not seen in the meta for a while. The pick turned out great, as the Chinese squad could win the first map. In the following map, Xtreme Gaming simply out-executed Team Liquid to win the series 2-0.
The next match was a South American derby between BOOM Esports and Heroic. In regional matches, Heroic has always had BOOM’s number. However, Pakazs popped off to carry his team to a 2-0 victory. He finished the series with a combined KDA of 33/3/18.
Nouns showed that their victory against Azure Ray yesterday wasn’t a fluke. Despite being heavy underdogs in the match against Team Falcons, the North American organization convincingly won the first map against the ESL One Birmingham 2024 champions. However, Team Falcons won the next two games to win the series 2-1. Still, it was a respectable effort from Nouns.
Team Secret, fielding former Shopify Rebellion support player Thiolicor, won their first series of the tournament against G2.iG. The two teams traded the first two maps. In the third game, Kordan’s Sniper had a relatively free game, going 15/2/8 to put a smile on Puppey’s face.
The day ended with a TI12 Final rematch between Team Spirit and the Gaimin Gladiators. After exchanging maps, Ace pulled out a nasty Broodmother that took over the game. Team Spirit could not do much on the final map and had to concede the series.
Current Group Stage results after Day 2:
Tomorrow, we will bid farewell to two teams. Meanwhile, two participants will qualify for the Playoffs by going 3-0.
