Bali Major Group Stage Concludes - Here Are The Results
The five-day group stage of the Bali Major is finally over, and we've brewed some interesting results and exciting storylines. Here is everything you need to know to keep yourself up to speed!
Group A Results
The ultimate leaders of Group A are Team Liquid. Despite an upsetting last-place finish at DreamLeague Season 20, Team Liquid continue to show their Major consistency and looks to repeat their appearance in the Grand Final of the Major through the Upper Bracket.
Beastcoast, Tundra Esports, and Team Aster have the same record of 10-6 and will be claiming the remaining three Upper Bracket slots from Group A. Beastcoast seem to perform better with their new addition of David "Parker" Nicho Flores, Tundra Esports continue to perform even with their coach standing in, and Team Aster continues to improve.
The two teams who will start their playoff run from the Lower Bracket are Team Spirit and Shopify Rebellion. Team Spirit has nine map wins from the group stage; just one win shy from forcing a tiebreaker for an Upper Bracket slot. Meanwhile, Shopify Rebellion was almost eliminated from the tournament, but the North American squad won their tiebreaker series to remain in the competition.
Three teams from Group A will be heading home early, as Blacklist International, Execration, and Invictus Gaming will make an early exit from the Bali Major. Blacklist International fell victim to Shopify Rebellion by losing their tiebreaker series, while Execration and Invictus Gaming had disappointing results and weren't playoff-ready material.
Group B Results
In Group B, known as the group of death, we have a surprising first-place finisher. Most fans would expect the two-time Major champions, Gaimin Gladiators, to top their groups, but it wasn't the case. The young Quest Esports roster placed first in their group, even with the Bali Major being their first LAN event for most of the roster.
BetBoom Team, Gaimin Gladiators, and PSG.LGD will join Quest in the Upper Bracket. These three teams are conveniently the top three finishers of DreamLeague Season 20, so it's no big surprise that they made it out on top.
9 Pandas started the previous Major in the Upper Bracket and made it to the Upper Bracket Final. This time, they won't have the luxury and will only have one chance as they will start from the Lower Bracket.
Azure Ray beat BLEED Esports in a close tiebreaker series, 2-1. This result means Azure Ray will continue to the tournament playoffs, while BLEED, Southeast Asia's last hope, will be eliminated. No Southeast Asian representatives make it to the playoffs of the SEA Major.
Teams joining BLEED in elimination from Group B are Nouns and Evil Geniuses. It was a disappointing performance from Evil Geniuses, who most Dota fans would expect to make the tournament's playoffs at least.
Game To Watch
Here are some of the best games that happened on the final day of the group stage!
Blacklist International vs. Invictus Gaming - Game 1
In an essential series, Blacklist International faced Invictus Gaming to stay alive in the tournament. In Game 1, it looked very likely that IG would take the win. The game went over 60 minutes, and Blacklist was never ahead in net worth throughout the entire game.
IG was looking to siege high ground and end the game with a 49,000 net worth lead in their favor. In the meantime, Carlo "Kuku" Palad used his Book of the Dead Neutral Item to push up the Middle Lane. While the Chinese team was busy killing heroes, Marc "Raven" Fausto on Terrorblade used Boots of Travel to teleport to the Necronomicon creeps and ended the game.
This game was one of the craziest comebacks in LAN event history.
Quest Esports vs. PSG.LGD - Game 1
Quest Esports has already secured their spot in the Upper Bracket, but PSG.LGD hadn't. This meant that the matchup between the two teams was much more critical for the Chinese squad.
Despite not having much to play for, Quest still dominated the first game with a 15,000 net worth lead in the 36th minute. Even with such a net worth deficit, PSG.LGD didn't give up and could turn the game around at 50 minutes.
The game exceeded the 60-minute mark, and Guo "shiro" Xuanang's Bloodseeker became unstoppable and helped PSG.LGD secure the game. They went on to win the second map to secure their spot in the Upper Bracket.
