K1 suspended from a match against Thunder Awaken over a matchmaking comment
Tournament organizer 4D Esports, which runs DPC South America Regional League, has suspended beastcoast participant Héctor ??Antonio "K1" Rodríguez from a match with Thunder Awaken. The decision was made after a meeting with Valve.
A few days ago, ??K1 wrote "Ching Chong" to ??Yong-min "Febby" Kim in a ranked match. The moment of the incident was captured on the streaming video and resonated online.
"Ching Chong" is an offensive phrase toward Asians. It mocks the Asian languages: Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Korean, etc.
The match between beastcoast and Thunder Awaken is scheduled for July 16 at 12:00 am CEST. The winner of the meeting becomes the champion of the season and takes a slot in PGL Arlington Major 2022. The loser will probably have to face Infamous in a tie-break. It's currently unknown who will be a substitution in beastcoast for this match.
