Patch 7.33: new map, 2 Roshan pits, and other changes
Last night, Valve released a new numbered patch 7.33. The developer completely changed the map, added 2 Roshan pits, changed the approach to laning, and made many other changes. In this article, we will tell you about the most important changes.
Gaming Map
The main change in the patch was the expansion of the gaming map by 40%. This resulted in the redesign of key objects and creep spawn points, as well as the addition of new objects.
New objects:
- Twin Gates – portals in the corners of the map. They allow players to quickly move from one part of the map to another.
- Lotus Pools – places where the Healing Lotus appears every 3 minutes. It restores 125 health and mana.
- Tormentor – mini-bosses that appear near bases every 20 minutes. Defeating them grants Aghanim's Shards.
- Watchers – an analog of the shrines from the old versions of the game. There are a total of 8 of them on the map. When turned on, the Watchers gives a view in a radius of 800 for 7 minutes, after which it turns off and becomes neutral again.
- Defensive Gate – additional passages from the base, which lead to the point of appearance of Tormentors. These entrances/exits can only be used by the team of the base they are in.
New Runes
There are 2 new runes in the game: Wisdom Rune and Shield Rune.
- Wisdom Rune appears every 7 minutes from the start of the match. It is located on the edges of the map near the bases. When using this rune, the hero gains 280 EXP every 7 minutes.
- Shield Rune gives the hero a barrier equivalent to 50% of his maximum health and lasts 75 seconds.
Roshan Pits
Valve removed the Roshan pit from the river and added 2 Roshan pits in the corners of the map. They are connected by a portal through which Roshan can cross when day and night change. After crossing from one roshpit, the creature gains +200 movement speed and the ability to pass through other units, damaging them.
Roshan changes:
- Roshan's current pit is highlighted on the minimap.
- Roshan no longer drops Aghanim's Shard on the second death.
- Roshan now drops Cheese starting on the second death. On the third death onwards, Roshan now drops Aghanim's Scepter when killed on the Radiant side and a Refresher Shard when killed on the Dire side.
- Roshan's HP increase per minute increased from 115 to 130.
- Roshan's Base Armor increased from 20 to 30.
Black King Bar changes
- BKB now misses magic damage. Normal dispelling is applied when the item is activated.
- When activating BKB, immunity to effects is applied.
- When activating BKB, +50% resistance to magic is applied.
- When activating BKB, full protection against pure and reflected damage is applied.
Universal Heroes
With the update, the game got a new type of hero – the universal hero. They don't have a Primary Attribute but get 0.6 damage per point of each attribute.

Neutral items changes
The new patch also changed neutral items gaining. They are no longer dropped from neutral creeps. Instead, creeps leave tokens of different levels, which can be exchanged for one of five random items.
Special features:
- Each hero has their own selection of random items.
- Neutral Tokens are fully shareable and may be sent to Neutral Stash.
- Neutral items claimed from Tokens are not shareable anymore and cannot be taken from Neutral Stash by allies.
- Neutral Tokens can be equipped without the 6s backpack penalty but can also be used from a backpack.
- You can no longer see your allies' stashed neutral items since you can't do anything with them.
Balance of heroes, items, and neutral creeps
In the new patch, Valve has paid significant attention to the balance of the game. Almost every hero has been redesigned, and many main and neutral items have new effects. In addition, neutral creeps now have 4 levels of abilities each. Learn more about all the changes related to balancing on the official Dota 2 website.
