Thunder Awaken rises above 7th place at The International and sets the South American record
South American team Thunder Awaken defeated Evil Geniuses in the upper bracket of The International 2022 Playoffs. Their meeting ended with a 2:0 score.
With this win, Thunder Awaken guaranteed at least a 5th-6th place in the championship. Previously, no representative of South America could achieve such a result. The previous record belongs to Infamous, which took 7th-8th place at The International 2019.
Another notable fact is that Thunder Awaken will earn more prize money for participating in The International 2022 than in the organization's previous history. The club was founded in 2016 and won $551,947. It will earn at least $593,319 for placing 5-6 at the championship.
The International 11 takes place October 15-30. It features 20 strongest teams from around the world. All of them fight for the impressive prize pool, which currently stands at $16,952,867. Battle Pass sales in Dota 2 continue to increase the prize until the end of the championship.
