Valve recently announced the date of The International 11. Right before that, a 12-team Last Chance Tournament takes place. But many people still don't understand who will take part in it. Let's find out!

Before explaining the specifics of the Last Chance Tournament, let's remember the structure of the current competitive season:

  • DPC Regional Leagues Winter Tour
  • Winter Tour Finals
  • DPC Regional Leagues Spring Tour
  • ESL One Stockholm Major
  • DPC Regional Leagues Summer Tour
  • PGL Arlington Major 2022
  • Regional Qualifiers for those who won't make it to The International 11
  • Last Chance Tournament

Qualifying DPC points are awarded for all phases up to the PGL Arlington Major 2022. Then the 12 teams with the most points receive direct invitations to The International 11. Teams that are less lucky face Regional Qualifiers from their region, where the champions earn invitations, and the 2nd and 3rd place teams qualify for the tournament of last chance.

Esports analyst Ben "Noxville" Steenhuisen ran a simulation based on the data already available and found out that the last-chance tournament could feature teams with the following positions in their regions:

  • Europe: 5 and 6 places
  • China: 4 and 5 places
  • South America: 4 and 5 places
  • North America: 3-5 places
  • Southeast Asia: 3-5 places
  • CIS: 3-5 places

Thus, Europe has the best chance to have the most participants at The International 11. Then come China and South America. There are many variables among the remaining regions, and each of them could win an extra slot for themselves.
